Paper Making
I’ve been working with Carrie Iverson in the print studio, experimenting with handmade paper by running multiple fibers through the beater and incorporating a variety of colorants. The process has become an ongoing exploration of material transformation, where familiar substances take on unexpected visual qualities.
One batch in particular has been especially compelling. Using shredded indigo denim, cotton fiber, and mica pearlescent pigments, we’ve produced a paper that recalls the appearance of aventurine blue glass. The deep blue fibers create a rich, luminous field, while the suspended mica catches the light and generates a subtle gold interference effect across the surface. The result occupies an interesting space between paper and glass; a soft, fibrous material that visually evokes the depth, sparkle, and optical complexity of a much harder medium.
